Who we are

We are SWS

SWS are based in Constantine, near Falmouth, Cornwall and run by Jimmy Marshall

Jimmy started his journey into sound engineering when he volunteered at ‘The Bunker’ recording studios at The Lizard, Cornwall in the year 2000. He fell in love with the studio environment and in 2002 went to study Sound Engineering at Truro College, Cornwall.

After 2 years there, he continued his study by progressing to a 4 year BSC (Hons) degree in Sound Technology at Glamorgan University, Glamorgan, Wales which he graduated from in 2008. Whilst studying he worked as a part-time in-house assistant engineer at busy touring venue ‘The Point’ in Cardiff.

After 6 months in India where he volunteered at ‘Skore Music’ studios in return for bed and board, he moved to Bristol where he started mixing bands in various venues including ‘Loco Klub’ (The Invisible Circus’ venue), ‘Mr wolfs’, ‘Cube cinema’, ‘The Canteen’, ‘Lakota’, ‘The Golden Lion’, ‘The Thekla’, ‘Start the Bus’ amongst others. He also set up a small home studio where he produced tracks for vocalists and recorded some smaller bands. He has worked with lots of bands/performers over the years including ‘My Bad Sister’, ‘A Sweet Niche’, ‘Chainska Brassica’, ‘The Inexplicables’, ‘Kerry Anne Jangle’, The Super 8’s’, ‘Morlove and Moonbeam’, ‘Press Play’ and many others in both the live and studio environment.

In 2014 he moved to Lewes near Brighton to work as in-house engineer in a venue/rehearsal space/recording studio called ‘Cafe Des Artistes’ where he worked in both the studio and live environments for several years until the area got redeveloped and the building got demolished.

Recently returning to his home county of Cornwall to be closer to family and the sea, Jimmy is currently working as a sound technician at Truro college (returning as an employee rather than a student!) whilst running the SWS studios as a sideline.

He is currently looking for the use of a suitable building and funding to set up a community not-for-profit recording studio and rehearsal space in Falmouth.
